This is a close-up picture of a Dutch custom herring. These are very famous in the Netherlands and are caught from mid-May to July, when they are called Hollandse Nieuwe. This picture was taken in Alkmaar, North Holland at the cheese market. It is eaten raw and for the real lover it is a delicacy.
