About ‘Dyrholaey’ by Arnold van Wijk

Dyrholae means something like island with a doorway. Today, Dyrholaey is no longer an island, but at the time of Iceland's colonisation, Dyrholaey was. During the last ice age, Iceland was completely covered in ice and the gigantic pressure literally pushed Iceland into the ground. As the ice disappeared, the pressure decreased and Iceland was still slowly rising. As a result, Dyrholaey was still an island at the time of colonisation; now it is a cliff by the sea. In this 120-metre-high cliff is a hole in which the sea has free rein. By sailors, this hole is also called Portland. From Dyrhlaey, there is a view all around. To the east, the Reynisdrangar cliffs off the coast of Vík can be seen, to the north the Mrdalsjökull and to the west a distant view over the south coast of Iceland towards Selfoss. Many puffins nest on Dyrholaey. It has been a protected area since 1978.

I'm a Dutch landscape photographer, born in The Hague, june 18th 1966. I started making pictures at the age of 14, with a Yashica Minister III rangefinder. Landscape and Nature photography has always been my favorite subject, especially Italy, Scotland and Iceland are my favorite countries. I hope you will like my photographs.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
