Earthly Connection — Organic abstraction in green and terracotta

by Color Square

A fascinating interplay of organic forms, rich textures and warm, natural colours forms an abstract composition with an almost tangible quality. Large, rounded areas of colour in terracotta, chocolate brown, moss green, sage green and off-white fit together like jigsaw pieces to create a harmonious whole. Each of the different areas has its own character. Some surfaces are smooth and even, whilst others display striking relief textures and graceful, undulating brushstrokes. The white sections in particular catch the eye with their delicate, fan-like lines, which lend the thick paint an almost sculptural quality.

Particularly striking are the narrow, sand-coloured divisions between the forms. They resemble braided natural fibres and emphasise the organic contours. This creates an intriguing contrast between soft, flowing lines and the solid, colourful areas.

The composition evokes associations with a mosaic of polished natural stone, ceramic tiles or a landscape viewed from the air. The combination of warm earth tones and deep shades of green lends the piece a natural tranquillity, whilst the variety of shapes and textures provides plenty of visual interest.

A contemporary artwork in which the experience of materials and geometric abstraction come together. The warm, understated colours make it particularly well-suited to a Japandi, Scandinavian, bohemian or modern interior, where it adds tranquillity, warmth and refinement.
