The circumzenital arc is a halo (optical appearance around sun and moon) created by refraction of sunlight and ice crystals and not like a rainbow by reflection of sunlight in droplets. The circumzenital arc is straight above the great circle (46 degrees) around the sun and is very colourful and bright. The convex side is facing the sun and red while the inside is violet in colour. The arc often appears at the same time as the side suns when the sun is not too high (15-25 degrees).
