Eilean Donan Castle stands in an idyllic spot near the confluence of Loch Long and Loch Duich on the west coast of Scotland. Eilean Donan Castle is named after St Donan. This cleric came from Ireland to Scotland around 580. His followers probably settled here in the late sixth century, but the island had been inhabited earlier.
The castle has played a role in numerous films. The most famous are probably Highlander and the James Bond film The World is Not Enough. The castle is open to the public and furnished as it would have looked 100 years ago.
