This picture was taken near the village of El Golfo in the south-west of the Canary Island of Lanzarote. The village itself has only about 200 inhabitants, but is very crowded thanks to a beautiful natural phenomenon, namely "El Charco Verde", also called "El Charco de los Clicos".
El Charco de los Clicos is a green lake formed by a crater sunk into the Atlantic Ocean. Its remarkable green color is caused by a certain type of algae (Ruppia Maritima) found in the water. It is a popular place for photographers due to its beautiful contrasting colors and also a place of choice for admiring the sunset.
