Welcome to this site!
My name is Mieke van der Beek and my hobby is photography. I have always been very visual and for that reason I started taking pictures. It only became really interesting when the digital camera was introduced. Now I had the whole process, taking the picture, editing it and printing it myself, in my own hands!
Nowadays I like to leave that to professionals.
My first "real" camera was the Minolta DiMAGE S404. Soon I ran into the limitations of such a compact camera. That is why I bought an SLR camera in 2008, the Pentax K100D. After that I got infected with the photo virus and after buying a macro lens a whole new world opened up for me. That world, hardly visible with the naked eye, turned out to be miraculously beautiful when magnified and up close. Like for instance the reflection of a flower in a drop of water, which has been one of my favourite subjects for a long time.
Actually my 'problem' is that I photograph almost everything that appears in front of my lens :) I just feel much less bound by rules and regulations and therefore my work is sometimes more abstract / figurative than in the beginning. It is more of an expression of feeling and replaces more and more the brush that I used to use before I got infected with the photography virus. I just go my way and try to accept that sometimes I can't because of my health or because I simply don't feel like picking up the camera.
It is and remains a hobby, but if I
