In the heart of the Okavango Delta, a majestic elephant appears in the water, its impressive tusks protruding from the surface. The scene is characterised by lush vegetation of aquatic plants gently dancing on the waves. A wide grassy plain stretches out in the background, lined with scattered trees that complement the blue, cloudy sky.
The elephants in the Okavango Delta play an essential role in the ecological balance of this unique habitat. Through their daily grazing and feeding, they break through dense plant growth and prevent the delta from becoming overgrown. With their powerful snouts, they uproot plant parts and pull them out of the water, as shown in the picture. This natural cleaning prevents the waterways from becoming blocked and ensures a dynamic and lively landscape.
In this way, the elephants contribute significantly to the preservation of this unique ecosystem. Their physical interactions with the environment create and maintain open water areas that provide a habitat and source of water for many other animal species. The elephants - the silent guardians of the delta - are therefore indispensable for the preservation of this natural wonder.
