Emily Carr (1871-1945) was a Canadian artist and writer. A pioneer of modern art in Canada, she is known for her paintings of coastal landscapes, totem poles and indigenous villages. Carr showed a deep admiration for First Nations culture and won the Governor General's Literary Award with her book "Klee Wyck". Her legacy consists of unique artistic contributions and her sensitivity to the cultural traditions of the indigenous peoples of Canada's West Coast.
