About ‘Engelsman sand plate’ by Ton Drijfhamer

This photograph, taken on the Engelsmanplaat in the Wadden Sea, shows a hushed and almost otherworldly landscape. The image shows a deserted mudflat, where the horizon almost completely merges into a dramatic cloud cover. In the middle is the Kalkman - a recognisable beacon for those familiar with the Wadden. Next to it is a group of people, visible only as small silhouettes, with a few striking bright green highlights. These subtle colour contrasts give the image just that little bit of life.

What makes this work special for me is the sense of nothingness it evokes - the realisation of how small we humans are compared to the grandeur of nature. The inspiration for this photo came during a mudflat trip with an experienced guide. It was cold, windy, and quiet - exactly that atmosphere I tried to capture in this image.

The minimalist composition and the use of natural lines, such as the gully running towards the cottage, create an almost meditative calm. The work exudes calmness, with a hint of mystery. With its subdued use of colour, this picture fits beautifully in a modern, calm interior - like a window to another world. A moment of silence, captured in images.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
