Ensaimadas are typical sweet rolls eaten in Majorca. They somewhat resemble Danish pastries or Dutch cream buns and are often prepared with lard, as a flavouring. This also gives them a somewhat greasy taste. They are commonly eaten for breakfast with a cup of coffee, with lots of icing sugar on top. You buy them at all kinds of bakeries on the island of Majorca and they are available with or without filling. Being such a typical Majorcan sandwich, anyone who has been there will recognise this image.
