There are few places I have travelled to that leave such a diverse impression as Rotterdam. Art, culture, architecture and history, all in a very small space and no two corners are the same. You often come across places in Rotterdam where the city's history and modernity collide directly. In the Kop van Zuid district, the place where many emigrants left for America at the turn of the century, the historic Hotel New York is flanked by a number of modern high-rise buildings, including a cruise terminal for today's large cruise ships.
The photo was taken at blue hour on the Boompjeskade, looking towards the striking Erasmus Bridge and the Kop van Zuid district with its skyscraper silhouette along the Wilhelimaplein.
