Evening atmosphere on the Sjonafjord

A natural pool with two stones on a rocky bank on the Sjonafjorden in Norway. Clouds and the evening sky are reflected in the calm water. In the background, the fjord and wooded hills at the landward end of the fjord can be seen.

On the banks of the Sjonafjorden in Norway lies a shallow pool amongst the rocks. Two light-coloured stones protrude from it, their reflections—along with the long, streaky clouds—appearing in the still water. Behind them, the fjord reveals itself with its gently rippling surface. Wooded slopes and low mountain ranges frame the view, whilst warm evening colours streak across the sky.

During this photo session, my gaze lingered on the small pool. I was intrigued by the contrast between the sheltered, almost mirror-smooth stretch of water directly in front of me and the open fjord beyond. The two stones, in particular, with their dark reflections, provided a clear focal point in the foreground. That is why I gave them plenty of space in the frame and guided the viewer’s gaze beyond the flat rocks out onto the water.

For me, the photograph captures a quiet moment on the banks of a Norwegian fjord. Cool shades of blue and grey meet earthy rock colours and the muted pink of the evening sky. As a wall hanging, the landscape creates a calming focal point, particularly in an interior featuring wood, natural materials and understated colours. Those who enjoy spending time on Nordic coastlines will find here not only the sweeping views, but also the small textures and reflections right at the water’s edge.
