Eye to eye with a crane, Grus Grus.
This species is also referred to as European or Eurasian crane.
The crane breeds in boggy marshes and is regularly observed passing through the eastern part of the Low Countries.
A crane is larger than a stork.
Cranes are active birds which are very conspicuous for their courtship and dance. They then call loudly to each other. Especially in spring, when the adult birds are broody, the dance is special: male and female spin around each other with outstretched wings and sometimes jump several meters high.
A pair of cranes makes a nest in a grassy knoll in a difficult-to-reach swamp. Usually there is only one young. The crane is a nest flyer. The young leaves the nest soon, long before it can fly, to minimize the chance of predators. The parents stay with the young in the shelter of upright vegetation and feed it until it is able to fly and find food on its own.
Here I placed a different, calm background behind the bird.
I like to take pictures of nature and landscapes. Travelling is my passion. I also like to occasionally apply in photoshop effects, or create new designs, thus creating digital art. Also art and culture in other countries have my interest. I created many albums in my shop: panoramas,.. Read more…
