The red forest buffalo or forest buffalo is related to the kaffir buffalo. This subspecies is typically smaller with horns that curl backwards and upwards. Its weight is usually between 250-320 kilograms. The animal has reddish-brown fur. A forest buffalo can reach speeds of 60 kilometres per hour over short distances.
Its food consists mainly of grasses, twigs and young shoots.
