When rain falls on a slope, the water slides down as a thin film due to gravity. You can see this well on a sloping road during a heavy rain. The water exerts enough force to carry away small soil particles. As a result, the soil slowly wears away, a process called erosion. How quickly and deeply the ground erodes depends on the speed of the water and the resistance of the surface, A low shutter speed makes it look as if the water is freezing.
