De Herder is an eight-sided, thatched post mill serving as a flour mill and is located in Medemblik. It is an upper mill and has two pairs of grinding stones. An earlier mill stood on the same spot until 1947, but this one was demolished as it was no longer working and was no longer needed.
In the mill itself you will find a shop where you can buy different kinds of flour and their own West Frisian beer. The Poorthuisje in front of the mill serves as a teahouse, where you can order apple pie, sandwiches, toasts, coffee, tea, soft drinks and the West Frisian beer 'Klap van de Herder'. It has a lovely terrace with a beautiful view of the windmill.
