About ‘Flowery grace in black and white’ by Johnny Flash

This series of pictures was created as a modern fine art portrait work in which man and nature merge together. The woman stands deliberately calm and timeless in the picture, while floral elements surround her head like an imaginary crown. Flowers, leaves and berries replace the hair and symbolise thoughts, feelings and inner worlds.

The decision in favour of strong black and white with hard contrasts draws the eye to forms, structures and emotions. Without colour, the motifs appear reduced, clear and at the same time intense. The white background creates space and calm, while the dark contrasts lend depth and expression.

The different viewing directions - sideways, frontal, to the right or directly into the camera - create different moods: from quiet contemplation to self-confidence to direct proximity to the viewer.
As canvas pictures, the photographs appear modern, elegant and timeless and fit into both minimalist and creative living spaces.
