The hummingbird has a long bill, with which it can get into the flower's crown tube. To reach the nectar, it has to roll out its tongue. The tip of the tongue is split and shaped like a straw. This allows it to reach nectar that even insects cannot reach. The flowers have a very long crown tube and have adapted to the hummingbird and the hummingbird to the flowers for their pollination. To make it extra attractive to this bird, nectar is plentiful. Hummingbirds have a strong preference for orange and red flowers.
