Before the sun reaches the horizon and while the day is still tentatively emerging in delicate shades of colour, the Danube valley at Eichfelsen reveals its most mysterious side. In the Swabian Alb, high above the valley, the landscape lies in a billowing sea of mist. The white swathes fill the deeply carved gorges like calm waves, leaving only the striking rock faces and treetops to stand out as quiet islands.
The dawn bathes the sky in soft shades of colour - cool blue slowly transforms into pink, purple and fine traces of gold that cover the surface of the mist. It is a moment of complete tranquillity, when the world is still and nature seems to be holding its breath. The canyon-like shapes of the Danube valley emerge dimly and emphasise the impressive depth of this landscape.
Nothing seems loud or intrusive. Everything is soft, subdued and at the same time characterised by a haunting beauty. This motif captures the special magic of a moment when the Danube valley is still asleep, but the Swabian Alb is already revealing itself in the first light of dawn - quiet, poetic and almost surreally atmospheric.
