Taurine cattle ( Bos taurus taurus ), also called European cattle , are a subspecies of domesticated cattle originating from the Near East . Both taurine and indicine cattle (zebus) are descended from the aurochs. Taurine cattle were originally considered a different species, but are now mostly grouped with zebus and aurochs in one species, Forest taurus. 1] [2] [3] Most modern cattle breeds are taurine cattle.
