Illustration of a fox in a snow-covered Speulder forest. The work was inspired by illustrations as seen in children's books. I created this work from the feeling I got when I thought about my youngest son when he was a little man.
That feeling was one that is probably recognisable to many parents. The child grows up eager to discover more and more of the world outside. You let go of the child but still hope that with everything he does, he looks back for a moment at how his parents would have done it.
As far as I am concerned, the Speulderbos is one of the most picturesque forests in the Netherlands, which is why my choice to set the scene in it was quickly made. For me, the winding trees in the landscape indicate the stability of a family that, like nature itself, adapts to circumstances where necessary and for as long as it can.
