Francia’s Azure-Crown (Cyanomyia Franciæ), John Gould Of the five or six known species of the genus Cyanomyia the C. Franciæ may be regarded as the most beautiful, inasmuch as it is characterized by a far greater amount of glittering colour than any of its congeners, and by these glittering hues predominating on the sides and nape of the neck—parts not generally adorned with any fine colouring; there are, however, exceptions to all rules in the colouring of HummingBirds, and this is a case in point. This illustration has been restored to its original vibrancy by enhancing colors and removing unwanted marks. A monograph of the Trochilidæ, or family of humming-birds was published between 1849 and 1887 by English ornithologist John Gould. This monumental work depicts and describes all the known species of hummingbirds at the time - comprising 418 lithographic plates and information on 537 species."
