The market square in Freudenstadt is the largest enclosed market square in Germany. It was laid out at the beginning of the 17th century according to the plans of Duke Friedrich I of Württemberg and follows a chessboard-like town layout. The arcades that frame the square on all four sides are a characteristic feature. In the centre are green areas, fountains and the town hall. Here you can see part of the Upper Market Square.
