About ‘Friendship’ by Karlijn Dapperen

An unexpected friendship between a friendly dragon and a brave knight. A magical world, with fun, recognisable details for children. A girl who made her own knight costume out of an old brown bag and some duct tape.

This illustration was created during bedtime for the children. Every night before bed, I get to make up stories for them. A different story every day, really! Stories don't always just roll off my tongue, but I manage it every time. And the nice thing is that it gives my creativity a boost. New ideas for illustrations just pop up. Like this one.

I often create cheerful images. This one is too, but I thought it would be nice to give this illustration a more dramatic effect. A beautiful encounter between this magical beast and a small, brave girl. I learned a new technique and a new style with this.

Hello and welcome to my shop here on Werk aan de Muur. My name is Karlijn Dapperen. I was born in the Netherlands and moved to Ontario, Canada, with my boyfriend and son in 2017. In 2020, we welcomed a sweet little girl into our family.

I have always been busy making things. From making my own shoes with duct tape when I was a little girl to illustrating birth announcement cards for all my friends when I grew up.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
