On the other side of the gorge, at the Obere Affensteinpromenade, the fires have just raged and left unmistakable traces. Dense green forest is now light and black. The Frienstein was spared from the fire. That the rock surface is nevertheless so black has only to do with the normal weathering of any sandstone surface. It's a great contrast when the original yellow color of the rock reappears under the black.
