Frodo the Frog

Being small doesn’t mean you have to be inconspicuous. In this design, the spotlight falls on an animal that is often overshadowed in art by majestic lions, elegant horses or exotic birds: the frog. For me, that is precisely where its special charm lies. Its unusual shapes, its distinctive eyes and the many tiny features offer an incredible wealth of opportunities to play with detail, contrast and expression. A seemingly unremarkable creature of the natural world is thus transformed into a self-assured little protagonist who quite naturally takes centre stage.

The motif combines the observation of nature with a playful visual language. It is meant to arouse curiosity and bring a small smile to the viewer’s face, without becoming a classic ‘cute’ animal picture. The frog has its very own aesthetic – a little peculiar, fascinating and, for that very reason, interesting.

Perhaps the image also serves as a reminder to take a closer look from time to time. After all, it is not always the biggest, loudest or obviously most beautiful things that deserve a second glance.

Sometimes the most interesting thing is simply sitting very still somewhere on a leaf, looking back at you.
