About ‘From the Gondola, Venice, Italy’ by Aloke Design

I made this image from a gondola to keep the viewpoint personal and near. The black prow led the frame through a narrow canal where brick walls and painted shutters leaned close. I wanted the picture to feel like a quiet passage, a moment of travel measured in water and touch.

I used a steady hand and a careful exposure to hold detail in the carvings and keep the color of the cushions true. Notice reflections that run along the hull, worn stone at the waterline, and a ribbon of light at the far turn. Tones are natural so the print can live with wood, leather, and neutral walls.

The mood is intimate and direct. For me it is about seeing Venice at human speed, one glide at a time.
