Humour should be present, this saying is clearly - ambiguous :-) The saying "Birds should be given... .....fresh water every day" is a humorous piece of wisdom that can and should perhaps seem somewhat provocative at first glance.

But on closer inspection, it is simply a joking piece of advice about doing something useful every day to feel good and live a fulfilled life. Referring to the meaning "to give birds", one could argue that it is about doing something every day that gives you special pleasure :-) , be it playing sports, taking up a hobby or simply spending time with friends and family.
