In spring, many gannets nest on Helgoland's cliff coast. It is a coming and going of birds that have been foraging at sea and return to the nest. They often also bring material to strengthen the nest with. The wingspan of an adult gannet is about 1.90 metres. Just before landing, they skim over the nesting colony.
