About ‘Gateway to silence | Real Alcázar de Sevilla’ by Laura Dijkslag

During my visit to Seville's Real Alcázar, I walked through the lush gardens and was struck by this image: an elegant gate, bathed in warm light, surrounded by palms and cypress trees. The atmosphere was almost timeless - like stepping right into another world. I wanted to capture that moment.

The gardens of Seville's Royal Palace (Jardines de los Reales Alcázares) are an oasis of calm, with Moorish influences, fragrant orange trees and hushed water features. This photo shows one of the gates to the greenery, flanked by those tall, distinctive palms. The gate's warm orange contrasts beautifully with the soft greens and minty blue sky. The colours have been deliberately kept light and greying - to maintain that dreamy, almost picturesque feel.

For me, this work exudes serenity and beauty. It tells of a place full of history, but also of a very quiet moment in the now. Perfect for on the wall in a place where you want to dream away: a living room, study, or somewhere where the sunlight falls softly inside.
