The "Highbury of Continental Europe". It is one of the illustrious nicknames of the Georg-Melches-Stadion. Once upon a time, in a distant past, the stadium was one of the most modern stadiums in Europe. It was also one of the most atmospheric stadiums in Germany. The loyal fans and ultra's of Rot-Weiss Essen stood fraternally together in the stands. In good times, and in bad times. Unfortunately, the stadium had to make way for a new one.
