Gerbera is a genus of plants in the family Asteraceae. The genus is named after the German botanist Traugott Gerber, who was a friend of Carolus Linnaeus. About 30 different species of gerberas exist in the wild in South America, Africa, Madagascar and tropical Asia. Many gerberas are used as ornamental plants or as cut flowers in flower arrangements.
