Geysir Geysir and the Strokkur are located in a geothermically very active area in the Haukadalur, a valley in southwest Iceland. Geysir comes from gjosa, which means 'squirting' This geyser is unfortunately no longer active but a few metres from the Geysir there is another geyser, the Strokkur or 'karnton', which squirts its water up 20 metres every 5 to 8 minutes just for a short time The picture was taken in January during winter in Iceland in the morning with sunrise
