Part of a series of street photography featuring people of all cultures around the world. This photo was taken in the narrow streets of Ganish near Karimabad in Pakistan. Only about'20 families still live there in small dilapidated houses, where they are not used to seeing tourists.
This girl was taken by surprise and seemed frozen in the moment. Her curiosity won out over her first thought of running away. The light and colours were beautiful at the end of the day. The yellow headscarf stood out from the photo like the girl with the pearl in Van Gogh's painting.
Ganish is a village in Hunza district in the Gilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan. It is the oldest and first settlement on the ancient Silk Road in the Hunza Valley, and is the site of several ancient watchtowers, traditional mosques, religious centres and a pond.
