In this photo you can see the beautiful and majestic mountain Gaustatoppen, the most beautiful mountain in Norway. The photo was taken at about 10:30 pm, when the setting sun cast the mountain in a beautiful soft light.
We were lucky to be able to see this view from our hotel room. We were traveling through Norway and had enjoyed the long evening light before. But to see the setting sun on such a beautiful mountain was a gift.
The mountain itself is large and impressive with rugged slopes that mainly show stones, snow and mosses. The woods only start at the bottom of the slope. The setting sun illuminated that rugged mountain in such a way that the magnificence of all nature there was emphasized even more. A humbling experience in a way.
At 1,883 meters, the mountain is the highest one in the province of Telemark. The advantage of this height is that you have a magnificent view at the top. You can see one sixth of mainland Norway from there. Deep into the distance you see an infinite number of mountain peaks. Closer by you'll see a number of lakes and also a lot of stones and rocks. It feels a bit like a moonscape. A special environment.
