About ‘Golden Field I – Axis’ by Whale & Sons

A low green branch runs horizontally through the centre of a vast golden-yellow expanse. Leaves and small branches are concentrated around the right-hand side of the composition, whilst a wide open space is maintained on the left. A thin dark line crosses the entire image, forming the fixed axis upon which the botanical form rests.

Golden Field I – Axis is structured around this horizontal arrangement. The line divides the image without splitting it into two separate halves. The same warm golden tones remain present at the top and bottom, but subtle differences in texture and brightness give both zones their own distinct character. The green leaves break up this regularity and introduce an organic structure into the geometric framework.

The work revolves around contrast: line versus growth, emptiness versus concentration, warm gold versus deep green. The botanical form remains compact, leaving most of the picture plane untouched. As a result, every branch takes on extra significance within the composition.

Visible brushstrokes, variations in colour and weathered accents lend depth to the golden-yellow surface. Axis combines botanical observation with a formal, almost architectural layout, keeping both elements in perfect balance.
