About ‘Golden Field II – Branch’ by Whale & Sons

A dark branch with rounded green leaves extends into the picture from the right-hand side. The plant fills only the lower and middle sections of the composition; on the left, a large golden-yellow area remains completely open. This division gives the work its power. The botanical form is not placed centrally, but is given space to stand out against the broad field of colour.

Golden Field II – Branch revolves around the balance between presence and emptiness. The branch extends horizontally across the picture, whilst the leaves are arranged in compact clusters, pointing upwards and outwards. Dark green, olive green and blue-green provide a cool counterbalance to the warm background. The delicate veins, dark branch structure and subtle variations between the leaves keep the form lively without disrupting the simplicity of the composition.

The golden-yellow surface is composed of visible shades, texture and subtle traces. As a result, the background functions as an active part of the work rather than as a neutral space.
