About "Golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), Golden Eagle, Sweden."

About the artwork

The golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) is one of the largest and most impressive birds of prey in the northern hemisphere. With a wingspan of 185 to 220 centimetres and weighing up to 6.5 kilograms, it is a powerful hunter known for its speed, keen vision and elegance in the air. The bird has a dark brown plumage with a golden brown sheen on the back of its head and neck, from which it gets its name.

Golden eagles live in mountainous and open areas in Europe, Asia and North America. In Europe, the species breeds mainly in Scotland, Scandinavia and the Alps. Their nest, often a large structure of branches, is usually built on rock ridges or tall trees and can be reused for several years.

The golden eagle hunts mainly rabbits, hares and marmots, but may also eat young ungulates or carrion. While hunting, it uses its excellent visibility and great diving speed, which can reach more than 240 km/h.

The species is protected in many countries; it used to be persecuted for alleged damage to livestock. Thanks to conservation measures and reintroduction projects, the population is slowly recovering in parts of Europe. The golden eagle is considered a symbol of strength, freedom and wild nature.
Photo was taken in Sweden during the golden hour.
