A film scene inspired me to transform a photograph I took in 2013 of Cortlandt Alley in New York into a film set. Virtually nothing you see matches reality. The buildings exist but not as depicted here. Furthermore, steam has been added and the colours and contrast greatly modified. A movie scene inspired me to transform a photo I made in 2013 in a secluded street in Lower Manhattan: Cortlandt Alley, on the borders of Chinatown, Tribeca and SoHo.
This is, especially in the evening, a totally deserted alley. They film here regularly for commercials. Almost nothing you see is real; steam, buildings, colours. Of course, the buildings you see really exist, but not in the way they are presented here.
Because I have a b&w camera, I had to add colour. And by doing some research how a movie street scene would look like, I came to this result.
