Greek temple in Paestum, Italy. Paestum is the classic Roman name for Poseidonia, an important city from ancient Magna Graecia, the Ancient Greek colonized area in the south of present-day Italy. It is now one of the most important archaeological sites in Italy and is located on the coast. The impressive ruins of Paestum were accidentally discovered around 1750.
Three well-preserved Doric-style temples are all located within the approx. 5 km long city wall and are located on the so-called Holy Way.
