The mountain is located on the Loch Shiel near Glenfinnan in the Scottish Highlands. The freshwater lake, at 28 km in length, is the fifth longest lake in Scotland. It is 4.5 meters above sea level and was once part of the sea when the sea level was higher. In the last ice age, ice deposits blocked access between the lake and the sea. If you now follow the lake in a southwest direction, it becomes the River Shiel, which flows into the sea.
