Green woodpecker is a substantial bird, with in flight strikingly green back and rump and deeply undulating flight. The head of the green woodpecker is strikingly marked with red crest and black patch around the eye. Males additionally have a red spot under the eye, this spot is black in females. They have a grey dagger bill. Immature birds are heavily spotted all over the body. The green woodpecker's distinctive laughing call is often first noticed. Often searches for ants on the ground.
I prefer to take portraits of animals, and this woodpecker wanted to be part of that and came to sit fairly close. How much I enjoyed this bird and was able to take several beautiful photos of it.
