Grey and Red Landscape Painting: Poppies Before the Distant Mountains by Surreal Media

This work opens like a view from a hilltop. Before you lies a meadow full of red poppies, white and cream-coloured flowers, with long golden blades of grass arching over one another. Translucent circles float amongst the flowers, like dewdrops or soap bubbles in the light. Behind them, the mountain ridges stretch away, layer upon layer, growing ever greyer and fainter until they vanish into the mist. A pale sun hangs above a grey, cloudy sky. The small detail I want to show you: on one of the central ridges there is a single tiny orange-red speck, like a little bird or a last flower keeping watch over the view.

I thought of the feeling of standing atop a mountain, out of breath, with the wind in your face and everything growing small in the distance.

The atmosphere is cool in the mountains and the sky, warm in the flowers in the foreground. The work is about tranquillity and perspective, about pausing for a moment before moving on.

It is a digital artwork with the appearance of thick, textured layers of paint, as if the colour had been applied with a palette knife. In a living room, study or bedroom, this piece brings depth and a sense of space. For walkers, mountain lovers and anyone who enjoys sweeping views, it becomes a window to the outdoors.
