During our first stopover to our holiday destination in Italy, we ended up in the very nice southern German town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. While exploring the nice town, we passed a tower in the fortress wall, and yes, there were 4 young kestrels in a row in an opening of the tower. It was already late for a photo as far as the light was concerned and I didn't have the right telephoto lens with me, but I had already made an "appointment' with these lovely birds for the next morning.
Unfortunately the next morning they were no longer in their "nest opening" in the wall, but had scattered on the surrounding roofs of the houses that were there. I could forget the photo I had in mind, but now had much nicer light from the rising sun. So, in this photo, there are two waiting for one of the parents, and preferably returning with a mouse then. Why one gets a "big mouth' from the other is unclear to me, probably hunger was the motive.
So some time later a mouse was delivered which also made for some nice pictures's, just a bit too bloody and lurid perhaps for Work on the Wall.....
