Gündlischwand, Switzerland
Gündlischwand is a municipality and locality in the Swiss canton of Bern, and is part of the Interlaken-Oberhasli district. Gündlischwand has 314 inhabitants.
Gündlischwand is located in the Bernese Oberland in the Alps on either side of the Schwartze Lütschine, halfway between Interlaken and Grindelwald. In the northern part of the municipality lies the Sägi valley with a small lake and the mountain Sägissa (2465 Meter über Meer). On the southern side, the municipal area (at an altitude of up to 2280 metres über Meer) extends to just below the summit of the Mannlichen above the Obere Spätenenalp. In the intermediate valley of the Lütschine, the confluence of the Weisse and Schwarzen Lütschine also lies within the municipal boundaries. Also on the territory of Gündlischwand is the mountain station Schynige Platte, the terminus of the mountain railway Schynige Platte-Bahn. Neighbouring municipalities from the north clockwise are Iseltwald, Lütschental, Lauterbrunnen, Gsteigwiler and Bönigen.
The village of Zweilütschinen in the municipality's territory is much better known than the main village of Gündlischwand because of the Berner Oberland Bahn (PDO) train station of the same name, where trains from Interlaken Ost station are split up with wagons continuing to Grindelwald and others to Lauterbrunnen through the stretching Lauterbrunnental to the south.
