A horse or pony stands in the meadow in front of a forest in brown in autumn. A peaceful landscape with green grass and a sky in blue.
Heinrich Nauen (June 1, 1880 in Krefeld; November 26, 1940 in Kalkar) was a German painter. He is considered one of the most important representatives of "Rhenish expressionism". His rich work includes paintings, watercolours, drawings and prints, as well as monumental murals, mosaics and handicrafts.
In 1898 he was accepted at the art academy of Düsseldorf. After temporarily attending a private art school in Munich (1899), he continued his studies at the Stuttgart Art Academy from 1900 to 1902. Nauen then first joined the circle of artists around the sculptor George Minne in the Flemish Sint Martens-Latem near Ghent, Belgium. In early 1906, Nauen moved to Berlin. He joined the "Berlin Secession" and was elected in the board of the German Association of Artists.
