A vista from the damsterdiep to the hanging kitchens in Appingedam.
Groningen and Appingedam are the two medieval cities of the province. The hanging kitchens are the most famous landmark of the city, which received the designation protected cityscape in 1972. Appingedam still looks unmistakably like a town. In the center are many originally medieval buildings to admire. The most famous attractions are the three hanging kitchens and the narrow bridges above the Damsterdiep. The hanging kitchens are best viewed from the little bridge at the Kniestraat.
