This beautiful great harrier has searched for and found nesting material for its nest, it is on its way back to its nest under construction in the large reedbed at the edge of the forest. For weeks the harrier has been searching for good nesting material, flying off and on, at long intervals sometimes, as the material often comes from far away. Smaller branches, dry grass and long cane stalks it takes in its talons and beak, and flies back to the reed belt with its booty. A beautiful sight so early in the morning, the sun is just rising, nature is still shrouded in silence. I enjoy standing on these early mornings with my camera and large lens, waiting for the harrier to fly in with its talons full of nesting material. I stand at a great distance without disturbing the harriers in their task. And because the distance to photograph is so great and the lens brings the harrier back up nice and close, the background in the photo becomes blurred, making the harrier stand out beautifully against the soft blur of the reeds and forest. A picture for the wall!
