Hasselt is a town in the municipality of Zwartewaterland in the Dutch province of Overijssel. Hasselt lies on the Zwarte Water and the Dedemsvaart river. The city lies in the northwest of the historic Salland region and near the southern border of the Kop van Overijssel. In the Middle Ages, Hasselt was a Hanseatic city. In modern times, it was an independent municipality until Hasselt was merged with Genemuiden and Zwartsluis in 2001. Since then, Hasselt has been the administrative centre of the municipality of Zwartewaterland. On 1 December 2015, the town had 6986 inhabitants.
